The world premiere of the latest version of the HG Wells tale
The War of the Worlds, was pulled at the last minute because of a fear of Internet pirates.
Movie distributor UIP said on Friday that it was cancelling a gala world premiere the flick at the Tokyo Budokan because of fears that illegal copies of the film would be made and circulated on the Internet ahead of its June 29 worldwide simultaneous release.
According to Japan Today, here, the event was expected to be attended by pint sized star Tom Cruise and director Steven Spielberg and more than 7,000 tickets had already been flogged.
For some reason, UIP was worried that a pirate would sneak into the premier and film it for Interweb audiences and they would not be caught.
