The IT network at the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent, was put out of action for 48 hours because too many staff were downloading music for their iPods.
According to the suddenly technically literate Sun newspaper the "main server" which "should be used to store patient notes and digital X-rays" was actually full to the gunnels with music videos, photos and games.
Quite why the main server would be used to store data like this the Sun does not say, however it was clear that at least one of the hospital servers became too full and crashed.
According to the Sun, X-rays had to be processed using film and patient notes were pulled out of hand-written back-up files.
A spokeswoman admitted that the incident had cost the hospital a bit of cash and that "staff have been told that from now on any music or other inappropriate files will be wiped."
