RITEK 16X SILVER DVD-R "RITEKF1"

I have today been fortunate to receive some pre-production samples of Ritek's new 16X DVD-R media and although I am assured it is rated at 16x speed my NEC & Pioneer will only write to it at 12x speed maximum. The discs are the normal silver unbranded sample media the underside dye being purple but not as deep as the G04/5 media with the inner seal a gold ring. The outer rim is smooth with no excess adhesive
The inner ring has this code :-
H4-07F60503173749A07
The ring nearest the dye has this number :-
DR5F80K-00005
The disc rim is sealed well and once split it easily separated and I felt that the inner seal was not very strong. The dye layer was adhered to both halves of the disc, bending these double cause them to shatter showing the plastic to be a little on the brittle side and could result in the discs cracking from the center hole after prolonged use.

Pioneer DVR-109 v1.40

NEC ND-3520AW v3.04

This burn reached 12x burn in just 2 steps burning in just over 7 minutes     This burn reached 12x speed in 4 steps with the addition of the 10x burn making it a little faster at just under 7 minutes

PI starting & finished around 120 with a really low reading during the 8x burn area. Good overall but I would have preferred to see it lower in 6x and 12x speed burn regions
Jitter starting at 12.5% then dropping to 10% at the 6-8x speed transition rising steadily to 15% at the end of the scan
PIF clear up until 4gig where there is a small cluster reaching a mere 3max
PI starting at about 60 reducing nicely at the 8x & 10x burn areas increasing again at the 12x burn area this pattern is similar to the Pioneer burn but with half the errors
Jitter starting at 15% dropping to 11% at the 6x to 8x transition with a slight rise up to about 14%
PIF Two negligible clusters at either end of the scale

The speed tests for both drives PERFECT showing exceptional readability of this media

    Could not be better
Title Set

Pioneer DVR-109

Title Set

NEC ND-3520A

Burn time @ 12x speed 7mins 40
PI same as with the test burn this shows a high start of just under 120 dropping to below 10 at the 6x-8x transition then continuing steadily hardly reaching 20 for the rest of the scan
Jitter hovers steady between 10% & 15%
PIF is negligible and only 20 throughout the entire scan
    Burn time @ 12x speed 7mins 25
PI starts at about 60 reducing nicely for the 8x & 10x burn rising to an average of about 150 during the 12x burn
Jitter is about 12% up to the 12x burn when it jumps up to about 15%
PIF shows throughout the entire 12x burn area but never goes above 5 which is still very low

The speed tests for both drives PERFECT showing exceptional readability of this media
    Could not be better

PIONEER DVR-106
PIONEER DVR-106

Burn time @ 4x speed 15mins 03
PI starts at 80 rising to a maximum of just over 160 and being fairly constant shows the media to be stable throughout the whole disc
Jitter is nice & smooth and level at an average of 12.7%
PIF is virtually non existent

A perfect graph up with the Best

This media only burns at 12x speed with the drives I am using but from the results I can see no reason why it should not give good results at 16x speed when the drives firmware will support it. Both the drives show that the best burning speed for this media is 8x with a rise in errors at both 6x & 12x speed but these errors are well within acceptable limits and show no detrimental results when played back on my DVD players The PIF error rate is exceptionally low for all the scans and the speed tests show a perfect graph.
The graph produced by the old 106 drive is higher overall but well within the acceptable limits and is a good graph, this shows that the media is at it's best when burnt at a higher speed than the 4x speed that this drive is capable

Overall this media has produced good burns with perfect speed curves each time and is a very good media at 12x speed burning, I now just need to wait and see how it performs at the16x speed it is rated at when the burner's firmware permits

In comparison with the CMCMAG AM3 discs reviewed the end of last year the CMC discs have the edge when it comes to burning at the lower & high speed ends and the CMC media does burn at 16x speed on the Pioneer & NEC with the stock firmware.
