Verbatim 16x DVD-R MCC03RG20

After testing the Titanium & the Philips MCC03RG20 16x DVD-R I decided to try the Verbatim discs that have the same MID code to see if there is any difference in performance. I persuaded my favorite on line retailer to send me some samples to review
These discs are a frosted metallic pale gold with the writing stencil cut into it making it difficult to get a good scan of the disc. The dye and markings are similar in appearance to the Titanium & Philips

Pioneer DVR-109 v1.50

NEC ND-3520AW v3.04
CAV up to 16x in 5min 58sec
CAV up to 16x in 5min 57sec
PI starts very low at below 10 and not showing any significant increase until just under 3 gig when it rose to just under 20 for a couple of minor peaks followed by a few more peaks reaching a maximum of only 51 near the outer edge
Jitter starting about 10% rising to about 13.3% towards the end with a some fluctuations and an overall average of 11.3%
PIF apart from 4 minor peaks it is virtually non existent
This result is very similar to the one obtained with the Titanium MCC03RG20 review
PI starts well below 20 and remains so up to 3gig when it rises to about 30 there is one spike of 137 in the middle of the scan but otherwise a very good scan indeed
Jitter is about 12% for most of the scan except for a 15.2% peak in the middle of the burn coinciding with the spike in the PI graph
PIF is next to nil
This result is slightly higher but very similar to the one obtained with the Titanium MCC03RG20 review
Perfect
One minor glitch in the middle of the scan otherwise Perfect

BENQ DW1620 B7U9

Pioneer DVR-106D v1.08 4x Speed
CAV up to 16x in 6min 15sec
CLV 4x in 14min 40sec
PI starts at about 80 rising to a maximum of about 300 with one 416 spike at the end. The results from this Benq drive are acceptable but disappointingly higher than any of the other drives
Jitter averages about 12.5 for most of the scan with one large peak 27.6% at the end of the scan
PIF practically nil
PI starts just over 30 decreasing to below 10 at the end
Jitter is about 10% with no large fluctuations for all of the scan very good indeed
PIF could not be better
Smooth speed reading up to 3 gig when the reading fluctuates showing irregularities in the burn
Perfect

The performance of this media is comparable with the Titanium & Philips MCC03RG20 which is good
The results of the Benq drive is acceptable and the discs all play OK but I am disappointed in the graphs produced showing that the Benq does not give an exceptional burn the same as my other drives.

IMO this media is equally as good as the Titanium or Philips
