» How Up A Home Theatre

There four fundamental points bare in mind when setting up a home theatre system.

first importance speaker placement. A few inches' difference in speaker placement can mean a big difference in sound quality so sure experiment placement fine adjustments speakers get most out them.

second precisely up sound balance speakers. receiver play test tones over speakers so volume levels can balanced so equal. Once correctly balanced surround sound music played exactly way director intended hear them. Most users simply estimate based test tones volume heard ears. A much accurate easier way available.

Analog sound pressure level meters available fairly cheaply electronics shops. may best get analog version rather digital version anaolgue likely prcise digital round numbers. Measurements could off .5 dB more.

Sitting in listening area hold meter so sensor points upward activate test tones. speaker so meter reads 75dB. only surround music effects perfectly balanced also when volume reference point volume exactly watched movie in theater.

correct volume setting in receiver's manual. receiver counts down 0 when turn up volume then 0 playback point. why display reads -24 -18 etc. turn up volume. mean 24 dB 18 dB below theater volume level. turn up playback reference can quite loud so prepare it.

Most TVs produce an overly bright inaccurate picture out box so third picture best image quality. best done a DVD Avia Sound Vision magazine Home Theater Tune-Up. discs play test patterns adjust various settings picture produce best image possible.

improve picture factory settings without buying a disc turn color temperature lowest setting (usually called "warm" "NTSC Standard" turn contrast (called "picture" TV manufacturers) down halfway point. get a lot closer an ideal picture factory settings. first may look a little dull watch warm color temperature lower contrast a then go back factory settings won't believe picture watchable before.

Last least arrange lighting sources so reflect TV's screen. always easy because people lighting near viewing area tends reflect in screen causing distractions diminishing picture quality. My grandma complain a lamp causing a big reflection right in middle screen. answer simple ... move lamp Grandma

» How Clean Handle Store DVDs

Since DVDs read a laser resistant — a point — fingerprints dust smudges scratches. surface contaminants scratches can cause data errors. a video player effect data errors ranges minor video artifacts frame skipping complete unplayability. So it's a good idea take care discs. In general treat way a CD.

player can't harmed a scratched dirty disc unless there globs nasty substances might actually hit lens. Still it's best keep discs clean also keep inside player clean. Never attempt play a cracked disc could shatter damage player. doesn't hurt leave disc in player (even it's paused still spinning) leaving running unattended days end might a good idea.

In general there's need clean lens player since air moved rotating disc keeps clean. commonly use a lens cleaning disc in CD player may want DVD player. I recommend only a cleaning disc designed DVD players since there minor differences in lens positioning.

There need periodic alignment pickup head. Sometimes laser can drift out alignment especially rough handling player a regular maintenance item.

Care feeding DVDs
Handle only hub outer edge. Don't touch shiny surface popcorn-greasy fingers.

Store in a protective case when in use. bend disc when taking out case careful scratch disc when placing in case in player tray.

certain disc properly seated in player tray before close it.

Keep away radiators/heaters hot equipment surfaces direct sunlight (near a window in a car hot weather) pets small children other destructive forces. Magnetic fields effect DVDs. DVD specification recommends discs stored a temperature -20 50 °C (-4 122 °F) less 15 °C (27 °F) variation per hour relative humidity 5% 90%.

Coloring outside edge a DVD a green marker (or any other color) makes difference in video audio quality. Data read based pit interference 1/4 laser wavelength a distance less 165 nanometers. A bit dye average 3 million times farther away going affect anything.

Cleaning repairing DVDs
notice problems when playing a disc may able correct a simple cleaning.

use strong cleaners abrasives solvents acids.

a soft lint-free cloth wipe gently in only a radial direction (a straight line hub rim). Since data arranged circularly disc micro scratches create when cleaning disc (or nasty gouge dirt didn't see cleaning cloth) cross error correction blocks less likely cause unrecoverable errors).

Don't use canned compressed air can very cold may thermally stress disc.

stubborn dirt gummy adhesive use water water mild soap isopropyl alcohol. a last resort try peanut oil. Let sit a minute before wiping off.

There commercial products clean discs provide protection dust fingerprints scratches. Cleaning products labeled use CDs work well say DVDs.

continue problems cleaning disc may need attempt repair one scratches. Sometimes even hairline scratches can cause errors just happen cover an entire ECC block. Examine disc keeping in mind laser reads bottom. There essentially two methods repairing scratches: 1) fill coat scratch an optical material; 2) polish down scratch. There commercial products one may wish buy polishing compounds toothpaste yourself. trick polish out scratch without causing new ones. A mess small polishing scratches can cause damage a big scratch. cleaning polish only in radial direction.

Libraries rental shops other venues need clean a lot discs may want invest in a commercial polishing machine can restore a disc pristine condition an amazing amount abuse. Keep in mind data layer a DVD only half deep a CD so a DVD can only re-polished half times.

» Tevion/Technosonic Twin Tuner PVR

Link: Build own PVR Under a Tenner
When I heard kits I was a bit skeptical exactly I end up price when my Technosonic PVR 101 kit arrived I was pleasantly surprised. unit came in a plain wrapper minimum screws securing top cover top case taped a quantity screws fix securely. Removing top revealed a mint interior an empty mounting bracket in center hard drive appears needed get unit up & running. I had an 80gig hard drive going spare & I installed first making sure was master it's jumpers. There 4 screws needed mount drive onto bracket 40 way ribbon cable molex power cable obvious how connect bracket was then screwed down base unit a 4 screws (all 5 mins work). Screw top back connect power fit batteries in supplied remote connect aerial connect scart lead TV I was ready go. DAM signal I had overlooked fact "Freeview" Digital was due in my area until 2011. outdone my granddaughter lives just 10 miles away she can receive limited Freeview so was time a visit.
The visit my granddaughter was welcomed playing my 3 year old great-grandson his ride Thomas Tank Engine we had a very nice Lasagna prepared & cooked my granddaughter much nicer supermarket microwave ones I am to. Back PVR. Connecting up aerial TV scart still received signal quick check manual I was able an automatic scan find necessary channels. signal indoor aerial was a bit week stations choppy I was able view & record Heartbeat unit a twin tuner I was able view & record another channel simultaneously. Time slip possible recording just one channel (playback earlier parts recording whilst still recording). 7 day EPG available "Freeview" enables advanced selection programs record should enable recording favorite soaps whilst away holiday an 80 gig HD there over 50 hours recording time. Apart poor signal due inadequate aerial unit performed very well day I played back my recordings via my 40" TV compared favorably my SKY box output.
connections back
  • Scart VCR IN/OUT
  • Scart TV OUT RGB & Composite
  • 2x RCA Coax Digital Audio Out
  • RCA Composite Video
  • RCA Analogue Audio L & R
  • Coaxial Aerial Input

These units come various firmware's mine v2.2 unfortunately firmware can only upgraded over air a time slot allocated this. my unit an rs232 header main board enable connection a PC manual upgrade so far I unable locate any firmware software able carry out.
units receiving recording digital signals "Freeview" only unsuitable recording terrestrial TV a SKY receiver a "Freeview" box under a tenner work very well.
